If there’s anything we love at She+ Geeks Out, it’s a good Instagram account. Bonus points for feeds featuring visual art by awesome women and other marginalized genders. We’ve rounded up 30 of our favorite accounts of Black women and other marginalized genders for you to follow. We’ve committed to sharing more of their work on our own accounts, but we encourage you to go directly to the source and show some love. Hey everyone! I was really feeling this way last week, and it just came out in this quick doodle that turned into a finished piece that I’m really proud of! I know many of you can relate, 2020 has been an ordeal, but we just have to keep moving forward. Love really is the answer. Treat people like you want to be treated. Check on your friends that you haven’t heard from in a while. It’s ok to be honest and real with how you’re feeling. Find people who you know truly care about you and share with them how you’re feeling. Find ways to bring your mind peace. Personally, I turn to God and I find time that I can meditate on his word and his promises. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. We will Keep fighting. Please: Protest, #Donate and assist however you can whenever you can – also, call your friends to check on them. I have just spent two hours on the phone with my bff and I feel so grateful to have someone I can talk to without being gaslighted or having to explain why I feel the way I do – which has been tough for me. • We are basically helping each other through these challenging times. Trying to make sense of what’s going on in our lives. Our strength is to constantly questions ourselves and calling each other out compassionately. At the end of the call I also pointed out that instead of talking about the last book we read, our dream vacations and other light hearted topics, we HAD to dismantle our trauma so we can survive and go on with our lives. She didn’t even tell me she got a kitten (which is of most importance) all that to say, i fight so one day maybe, i can have a regular convo with my friends. • I am aware that in many ways I have lots of privileges – it doesn’t erase the fact I am still a WOC, a black woman – and I will do my best to help with erasing injustices.

To be In Solidarity is to be in unity with your feelings AND actions for a common interest. We all want to be seen, heard, and respected. Those common generousities have not always been extended to black people, natives, or queer folks. Right now, Black people need the solidarity of every single person reading this caption and beyond. It’s time for us to come together for the greater good. Liberate one in order to liberate all. I’m so excited about this design because for the past year @teresabaker11 @kulacloth and I have been conspiring to create a fundraiser for good. It felt like the right time to bring this to life. With the sales of this Kula cloth we will attempt to raise over $20k to be distributed to a few non profits in the outdoors that are working hard to change the narrative of what it means to be a minority or underrepresented in the outdoors. Most of us want peace. That won’t come with complacency. That won’t come unless we look in the mirror and really acknowledge how we treat people we deem as “other” in this world. Right now we are fighting for equality that was long over due. But within that we also see the nuance of the voices that get left out. We will continue to march until all injustices have been stomped out. So that the next generation, my beautiful nieces, the children i may one day have can live in a world that knows true peace. True harmony. Diversify your workforce. Be a proactive agent of change. If the events of the last week were your wake up call, if you are just realizing how many voices have gone unheard that you could’ve amplified, make changes. And don’t ever stop. Black Lives, Trans Lives, Black & Brown Immigrant Lives, MATTER. Let’s act like it.

it’s one of those big little things that meant so much to me. that daniel always asks when i’m going to take out my braids and bring my afro back. as a black woman with a thick coarse lion’s mane of 4c hair, I’ve mostly tried to keep it tamed in all kinds of braids and protective styles so I didn’t have to deal with it very much and also so I felt “prettier” Growing up I was always jealous of the long flowing locks of my white friends or the bouncy, lively curls of my mixed friends. Braids were the closest thing I could get to that unattainable goal. I still feel that way sometimes. But Daniel always sees right through it. After I take my braids out and I send him pictures, he always has the biggest goofiest grin and makes me feel so great. He loves playing with my coils which I *sometimes* permit ? Anyway, random musings within an interracial relationship in case you were curious ? it goes both ways actually.
