Lillian is a data scientist who loves all things data, food, math, cats, and Boston. Before getting her hands into clypd’s data she worked at Twitter, Compete, BzzAgent and got her Masters in Mathematics at W.P.I. She gave a great talk on the importance of creating smart, helpful charts and graphs to communicate important information at her office at clypd for the October 2015 SGO event.
How (and when) did you get into your current field or company?
I’ve been working at clypd since 2013, and was previously a data scientist at Bluefin Labs and Twitter (acquired BL). I have a BA in math and decided to get an MS in applied math to gain more rigorous technical skills and become a data scientist.
What does a typical day look like for you?
On a typical day I am working with the Product team to design and plan new features for the clypd product. We may be on-boarding a new dataset, which means lots of time with data exploration and checking our assumptions about the trends and content of the data. If a new partner is signed, I’ll be working on answering research questions that will help us understand how to best optimize their inventory.
What is the favorite part of your day?
Lunch time at clypd is a well-guarded time where no one is expected to stay at their desk and eat while working. Instead, we take a break, walk and eat together. Ad Tech pushes you to learn cutting edge technology and tools. The issues of scaling and data rigor are top of mind.
What other women inspire you?
I was lucky enough to attend Smith College, and just about every friendship I made there has created lasting inspiration for getting my butt going and achieving my goals.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I purposely chose a liberal arts school as a mathematics student to explore different fields. I took classes in Latin American Studies, Music, Government, Quantum Physics, and so many more.
What do you geek out about?
Right now: comics! All things Saga, Ms. Marvel, Wicked + Divine.
