Hey, it’s Lorin with your delicious recap of last night’s SGO dinner sponsored by Velir, a growing digital marketing agency in Somerville with a fun staff and awesome space. And yes, they are hiring!
Attendees made their own tacos from a fully stocked DIY Mexican spread from Anna’s (carnitas, pinto beans, and guacamole, oh my!) and washed down the deliciousness with wine, beer, or an assortment of soft drinks. There was tons of room to make new friends in Velir’s airy event space, and that definitely happened. Poor Felicia had a hard time wrangling us to our seats so she could kick off the program!
Velir’s Mary Kate opened with an overview of the company, then turned it over to her colleague Kimiko Tanaka Vecchione, who showed us how personalization in digital marketing can be used just enough to be helpful but not super creepy. Ok, maybe just a little creepy, haha. Next, Mimi Liu from AthenaHealth talked to us about how healthcare software can protect the doctor-patient experience, and shared some ways that her job and personal life interrelate. Bhuvana Husain from Akamai wrapped up by telling us about her challenges and triumphs growing a women’s employee association within Akamai.
After Q&A, we had Rachel’s Favorite Things – I mean the raffle! First to go was the Yoda Mat (where you do yoga or do not, because there is no try), but there were lots of other awesome things too, including a Tesla watch and a dinosaur plant that grows in one day and never dies (which should be the only kind of plant I am allowed to have). We ended the evening with more networking and hanging out, and left with a super handy portable phone charger from Velir in our pockets!
