Why did you decide to sponsor a She+ Geeks Out event?
I’ve attended several SGO events and have enjoyed them. Velir has taken a genuine interest in supporting local community initiatives, specifically those related the technology space and I thought it would a good way for us to get our name out there/invite the tech community into Velir.
What has your She+ Geeks Out experience been like?
Great! SGO provides a casual atmosphere that enables women to connect and create a community within STEM related fields. Topics are tied together by women’s interests, presenters are clearly passionate, presentations are diverse and interesting (i.e., not repetitive), and SGO gives women the opportunity to have conversations related to the challenges we encounter in our careers, which can be difficult to tackle in the workplace.
Have you received any feedback from your employees about the company’s involvement with SGO?
All the ladies that participated in the event had a great time and were really excited to meet people from outside of our office and gain perspective.
How do you see Boston/Cambridge as an important community for supporting women in tech?
Success Stories?! Have you hired anyone you met at an SGO event? Made a connection? We’d love to hear more!
Not yet, but we’ve definitely met a lot of women at these events who I think would be a welcome part of helping this company grow.
